Is Check The View free to use?
Yes. The interactive map, traveller reports, public data, feeds and API are free, and there are no adverts. You can read and search reports without an account; registering is optional and only needed to add reports or follow locations.
How current is the information on Check The View?
Every report is a dated traveller observation that shows the date it was noticed. A report stays active until its estimated end date or the site's freshness period (60 days by default, configurable) passes, unless a newer report confirms the condition continues. When no current report remains, the landmark's condition is unknown rather than assumed open.
How do I check whether an attraction is closed or has scaffolding before my visit?
Open the attraction's location card on the map or search for its name. The card shows the current reported condition, the latest observation date, photos and dated traveller reports, plus verified official updates where an attraction representative has claimed the location.
Can I add a report about a landmark I have visited?
Yes. Register for free, then add a dated report with an optional photo of the current condition, a visit and view rating, and details such as closures, refurbishment, scaffolding, restricted access or obstructed views. Reports help other travellers see what the landmark looks like now.
Where does Check The View data come from?
Traveller-submitted dated reports and approved official updates from verified attraction representatives. Public data is available to download as JSON, through the public API, as JSON Feed or Atom feed, and as a machine-readable guide for AI assistants at /llms.txt.
